Resilience

resilience
Definition
NOUN
1.
speedy recovery from problems: the ability to recover quickly from setbacks
2.
elasticity: the ability of matter to spring back quickly into shape after being bent, stretched, or deformed

Today started out pretty dismal.  Although I'm ready for cooler weather the shock of grey skies and rain this morning was a bit much.  I started out feeling like the odd girl out while dropping the kids off at school and in an instant was transported back to Jr. High-ish feelings of awkwardness and inadequacy.  So upon re-entering my quiet house it was fairly tempting to say "screw it" and get back in bed - preferably with a big box of chocolates.

Because I believe in celebrating small victories I will gladly tell you that I didn't crawl back in bed and instead packed up my computer and books and headed to the library.  I had a wonderful time studying ensconced among the rows of books and by the time I emerged a few hours later I felt like I had taken a good run - only a brain workout instead of a body one!  What a wonderful feeling to exercise parts of my noggin that have been dormant for a few years.

Also today I had a meeting with someone I respect who was very affirming and encouraging and those Jr. High feelings were kicked to the curb.  People, don't underestimate the power of a kind word.  You never know what a person might be going through and showering those around us with real, positive energy is always a good thing.

And for the cherry on top of my resilient day I had a few minutes and so ducked into the thrift and I found (drum roll please) THIS....

O.k. people.  For those of you who might not know - THIS is a vintage Catherine Holm lasagna dish.  The one I found is orange (EEKK!!) and yes it's awesome.  I just looked one of these gems up on Etsy and it was going for $75 bucks.  I bought mine for $5.

Take THAT stupid Jr. High feelings!
