A Christmas Highlight

My niece Aimee and brother Mark introduced me to the pure excellence of the song Threw It On The Ground over Christmas.  Just one listen and me and the rest of the family was hooked.  Additionally, it's quite fun as you sing this song to mimic the hand gestures.  Just try it, you may become hooked too.

Marcel

As a diversion from deep thoughts of any kind I thought I would share this funny little video with you today.  I just came across it on a friends facebook and thought it was delightfully quirky.  After watching this Ella wants to decorate her shells with google eyes and Jake is inspired to make his own movies.  My favorite part is with the dog.  Favorite line "all he ever wants is treats and snoozes, snoozes and treats.."  Cute-ness!

On not having it all...

Last night I watched a cute new show with a couple of my favorite female comedians - Christina Applegate and Maya Rudolph called "Up All Night".  It was the pilot episode and focused mainly on introducing us to the characters, but I have hopes this little show will turn into something.  The premise of a successful couple raising a baby who have no clue what their doing is fun and it helps that I adore the cast.

Quotable quote from the episode came from Maya Rudolphs character who said:

"At a certain age a woman has to choose between her ass and her face.  You can have a good face and a fat ass or you can have a tight ass and the face of skeletor.  You can't have everything."

Word.

Here's to not looking like skeletor.  Amen.

Holy Crap!

Last week I was fortunate enough to be in one of my favorite places - Gearheart Oregon.  One of the many things I love about Gearheart is it's cute little main street which includes a grocery store, ice cream shop, bakery, restaurant, and a couple boutiques.  By far my favorite boutique in Gearheart is Pacific Crest Cottage which sells my favorite square candles among many other fabulous items.  On this recent trip I was thrilled to discover a new artist and card line which I instantly fell in love with.  Behold the awesomeness of Erin Smith. I dare you not to fall in deep like with her brilliant brand of snarky.  Enjoy!

Here's to "thinking evil thoughts and trying NOT to say them out loud" today!

Brutal Truth all Prettied Up

I love cards.  Good cards.  Cards that actually say what everyone's really thinking.  Clever, funny, sarcastic, real.  Enough of the mushy, gooshy stuff - make me laugh please.  Because life is just too short not to have fun, laugh out loud, and make those church ladies cringe.

A few weeks ago I was incredibly pleased  to stumble upon another line of fun cards.  These are called Naughty Betty and many of them are just spot on!  Check out their website for more fabulousness but in the meantime here's a few of my favorites:

And there you have it - beautiful inspiration for your day.  Enjoy and have fun today!

I Heart Kristen Wigg

I must be honest and admit that before I saw Bridesmaids this past weekend I wasn't super familiar with Kristen Wigg.  I'd seen her on SNL and remember thinking she was hilarious and really noticing her in the Lawrence Welk skit with Betty White and and rest of the power female cast that made that episode rock.  I don't know many people who have the gift of being politically incorrect, deformed, funny and cute all at the same time.  Favorite line here:  "I like can I touch?"

But for as brilliant as Kristen is here I absolutely fell in love with her after beholding her spot on portrayal of maid of dishonor in Bridesmaids.  Not only does she say and do things I can only dream about but she manages to come off funny and endearing in spite of her crazy escalating antics.  I wish I could say I don't relate to her character at all but ....umm -yeah I totally do!  I laughed so loud in the theatre that glares were elicited from a young man sitting a few seats over.  This may be a movie I actually purchase because it just makes me so proud to be a woman and it proves once and for all how funny and smart we gals are (and all while being fully clothed) = amazing!

So thank you Kristen Wigg for being awesome.  Call me up for a drink anytime!

p.s.  check out Kristen's official  website for more proof that she's the real deal - love it!

It's kind of a funny story

Last Sunday for my birthday Tom and I got to go on a date up to Portland.  Our plan was to have lunch and stroll around the fun artsy area of Mississippi avenue.  And that's where the story begins....

The night before our date we had watched the latest episode of Portlandia which featured this hilarious skit.  Throughout the day we'd heard people joking about "bird's on things" as we looked through the various shops.  Near the end of our afternoon we ducked into a little store selling mostly local artists work.  We were happily browsing around when another couple entered and asked the gal working there if she had anything "with a bird on it".  They were snickering and joking about the whole thing and frankly the girl didn't seem that amused.  She sort of gave them a blank look as if to say "yeah, you're not funny....I get that a lot".   The couple proceeded to confirm that this was indeed THE store the Portlandia skit had been filmed in , to which the very weary and now annoyed cashier affirmed "yes, this is the one, ha, ha...(get the hell out of here), ha!".

By this point although the whole thing was highly entertaining , I was starting to feel bad for the poor store keeper.  I had a feeling she'd had this very same conversation MANY times and she seemed to be gritting her teeth and trying to hold onto some form of politeness, although I knew she was going to loose it at any moment.  Finally there was somewhat of an awkward pause for the couple had finally stopped joking around and it was at this point that the woman asked her final question:  "No, really - can you please show me something with a bird on it?  We have some friends visiting us from out of town and we really want to find them something from THIS store with a bird on it".

And that my friends is why I never want to work in retail again!

All joking aside, part of the reason this spoof is so funny to me is that I happen to love things with birds on them!  In fact in my house right now there are several items with birds and that doesn't even count the things I'd still love to buy.  Here's a few of them.....

See how cute things are when you put a bird on them?
